Daffodil Parades and other fun in the area…

Spring Gets Things Moving

There are lots of fun things to do in the Port Orchard area. Every spring is the Tacoma Daffodil Festival. It’s a glow with thousands of these yellow flowers that are a famous beacon of spring. There is not one but four daffodil parades! Rich with history but always fun to participate and enjoy.

In May each year Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce hosts the whimsical Fathoms of Fun Festival. The highlight is the Seagull Calling Contest at the Waterfront Park. All squawking competitors need to waddle their way to the beach. The judges preside bewigged and consist of an assortment of city, county and state officials. The call to “get your squawk on” is announced… and the exuberance of all sorts of calls proceeds. Along with the ear-splitting competition is a grilled wing cook off and lots of other food and entertainment options.

Port Orchard Farmers Market is on the waterfront from April through October. A great place to get local produce, flowers, shell fish and lots more. Live music and foods trucks make it easy to bring the whole family and all can enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors.

In Skagit county, to the north, is the annual Tulip Festival. The area is rich with large tulip and daffodil farms where you can drive and walk past fields upon fields blanketed with brilliant blossoms.

Summer Fun

Whaling Days in “old town” Silverdale in late July. A three day festival with fun for the whole family. Bremerton Blackberry Festival is a late summer celebration of the berry that seems to thrive through this region. Tasty treats from sweet pies and syrups to savory sausages and wine, but then also berry soaps and lotions. A little something for everyone.

So, if you just love daffodils, corndogs or a great slice of pie, or just want a day out with the family, there are fun things happening throughout the spring and summer around the Port Orchard area.
